New West Hollywood townhouses are on the horizon with a recent presentation to the West Hollywood Planning Commission. The Design Review Subcommittee saw the plans for a new townhome development slated for Detroit Street.
About the West Hollywood Townhouses
BSLI Detroit Street, LLC hopes to redevelop two lots just north of Santa Monica Boulevard comprising 1138 and 1144 Detroit Street, on the corner of N. Detroit Street and Fountain Avenue. The townhomes would consist of two 4-story buildings with a total of ten units situated on top of a basement garage level.
Initial plans called for five 1 bedroom units and three 2 bedroom units, though the newest rendition shows 10 total units, each with three bedrooms. The average unit size is 1500 square feet.
Aaron Brumer & Associates
The designer for the property is Aaron Brumer & Associates. The goal was to make the townhouses blend in with the existing community.
They worked hard to give the complex a light, airy feeling since other buildings in the area are much shorter. This was done by giving each level a different color, starting with a dark layer at the bottom, including a white middle section, and creating a crown effect with both color and materials at the top. Although a simple structure, the townhomes will be an interesting combination of colors and textures.
Approval Likely
More than likely, the project will be approved by the board, as was recommended by the architect Gwynne Pugh. Similar developments have popped up across the LA area in other small lot subdivisions.
