Today, I’d like to talk with you about the Wilshire Corridor, sometimes referred to as The Millionaire Mile or The Golden Mile. This 2-mile section of road is surrounded by Beverly Hills, Bel Air, and Holmby Hills, and very close to Century City and the entire Westside. Living here is a wonderful experience.
History of the Corridor
The boulevard was originally named for Henry Gaylord Wilshire, a developer that arrived in the area in 1884. But it wasn’t until the 1920’s that the area began to be developed.
Initially, Wilshire Blvd was lined with apartment buildings. However, in the 1960’s, when the idea of the condominium came to be, many of the buildings were converted to condo units. From there, new high-rise condos were built until the area was so built up that a corridor of buildings along the curving road was created. Thus, the name Wilshire Corridor.
New York Style Living in California
If you like the idea of living in New York City, but would miss the coast and warm temperature of California, then you are in luck. The Wilshire Corridor has everything that New York City has…and more!
Today, there are over 30 multi-family developments along the corridor with even more in the works. Most luxury condos on The Wilshire Corridor have:
- High rises
- Beautiful views
- 24-hour valet service
- Concierge service
- Pools and fitness centers
- Spas
- Conference rooms
- Tennis
- Maid units
- Minutes from shopping
- Close to the beach and UCLA
Condo Prices
There is a wide range of condo prices along the Wilshire Corridor. Older units that were converted from apartments, as well as those built in the 70’s and early 80’s, tend to be less expensive than newer luxury units being built today. Prices typically range from $350,000 up to $17 million, depending on the unit, which building it is in, and the size.
In addition to the price of the condo unit, there are also HOA fees associated with living in the corridor. Most fees average at $1 per square foot per month.
Condos Along the Wilshire Corridor
With over 30 developments and more being planned, I won’t take the time to highlight each luxury condo along the corridor. However, here are a few of the more well-known and sought after high-rises:
- Beverly West – The top nine floors each represent an 8,000 square foot penthouse
- Wilshire Comstock – Beautiful views of downtown and the golf course
- Wilshire Terrace – The only co-op building in the corridor
- La Tour – Great contemporary units
- The Dorchester – Great views of the Santa Monica Mountains
- The Wilshire – Highly sought after luxury condo
- The Remington – Loved by foreign buyers
- The Carlyle – One of the newer condo units available
- The Californian – Modern art deco exterior
There are many reasons to live on the Westside’s Wilshire Corridor. If you are in the market for a condo, give me a call. I’d love to help you find the luxury unit that perfectly suits you and your lifestyle.
