Who doesn’t like Memorial Day weekend? A long holiday that officially starts the summer celebrations. Parades, festivals, exhibits, wine tastings, and more happen throughout the Los Angeles area. However, if you are like me, you might like staying right here on the Westside.
Whether you are looking for a weekend event, a fun day trip, music, food, water, or games, you can find it here. That is why I put together this quick guide of fun things to do right where we live.
MAINopoly in Santa Monica
This theme-party style event is not only fun but a fundraiser for Summer SOULstice and Heal the Bay. Stop at each location to get a stamp on your game board for your chance to win a “Taste of Main Street” prize package. Don’t forget to dress up in your best monopoly inspired attire!

Whale Watching at Dock 52 in Marina Del Rey
Getting out on the water is a great way to spend your Memorial Day. Whether you want to fish or go whale watching, Marina Del Rey Sportfishing at Dock 52 has what you are looking for. The gamefishing in Santa Monica Bay is world-known for species such as halibut, sand bass, and yellowtail. What you may not know is that Marina Del Rey Sportfishing has a reputation for always finding the fish.
Whale watching trips for Memorial Day can catch the last of the seasonal migration of the California Gray Whales, as well as the feeding of the Blue and Fin whales. You’ll also see sea lions, dolphin, porpoise, seals, sea turtles, mola mola, shoals of sardines and anchovies, and gorgeous sea birds.
So, apply your sunscreen, put on your hat, and head out onto the open sea.
