One after another, tech companies are landing on the Westside. Both Google and Facebook have recently announced that they are seeking further space in the area to One Westside and The Brickyard. Bringing in these tech giants help to keep the Westside economy and real estate market strong.
Google and One Westside
The Westside Pavilion, will now be home to Google offices, at least for the next 14 years. After signing a lease for the 600,000 square feet, Google looks forward to completing renovations to One Westside in 2022. This is just one more space occupied by Google on the Westside.
One Westside will convert the traditional shopping mall to creative office space. This is a first of its kind conversion, which Hudson Pacific and Macerich plan to start later in the year.
Many features of the mall will remain, including the high ceilings and skylights, as well as the multi-level atrium. In addition to current features, One Westside will also have a rooftop lounge and outdoor terraces.
One Westside, located near the Westwood/Rancho Park Expo Line station is perfect for those commuting to work. Google’s last lease at the former Spruce Goose hangar in Playa Vista is not quite as convenient, nor quite as large. However, with both facilities, Google has more than one million square feet of leased space on the Westside.
Facebook and The Brickyard
Not to be left out, Facebook is also renting more space on the Westside, this time in a new building known as The Brickyard. Designed by Michael Maltzan and Gensler, the building is part of the Campus at Playa Vista complex.
Facebook is renting 260,000 square feet of the 430,000 square feet available. In addition to office space, The Brickyard provides onsite daycare, on-site retail, outdoor meeting areas, and rooftop terraces.
They plan to move into their new digs in the spring of this year. Sources say that they will continue to lease about 50,000 square feet at Playa Jefferson.
